Dynamic Water Technologies’ first installation for Macerich was at the Superstition Springs Mall located in Mesa, Arizona. The installation was a huge success, saving over 125,000 gallons of water during the first month of operation. Chemicals were halted indefinitely and cycles were increased to a set point of 8,500 µS/cm, a value unachievable through traditional chemical treatment. Scale began flaking off of the tower rapidly, and the economic benefits were seen immediately. The success of the Superstitions Springs installation has supported a roll out of all other Macerich central plants across the US.

Superstition Springs Center Is a regional shopping center with 1.3 million sq. ft. of retail. We have a chilled water loop system through roughly 200 air handlers in our mall. The central plant has (3) 750 ton chillers, (3)750 ton BAC cooling towers, and an 800,000 gallon Thermal Storage Tank.
The central plant is one of the largest assets at the center and taking seriously making any changes to an already successful system. After researching the Dynamic Water product and company, we were made a test site for our roughly 50 property portfolio. We purchased and installed the Dynamic Water UIT system In December 2016 and have used It through the present.
From the first meeting. The Dynamic Water team has been first rate partners and has been an absolute pleasure to work with. We learned about the science behind the unit from their founders and have worked with their engineers and team to achieve an outstanding Install. The installation team from design and implementation have been extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and maybe most importantly flexible to our environment and needs.
We were spending about $8000 a year on chemicals to treat the cooling towers and from day one of the Install we have not used any chemicals in the towers. During the first two months we have saved roughly 120,000 gallons of water by increasing our blow down cycles from 3.5 to 8.5 cycles.
We are trending flat in electrical usage as with the Thermal Storage Tank we do not run as much as most sites hi the winter months, but the approach of the chillers remains the same and we are seeing signs of the system cleaning itself through our water readings. We look forward to the potential electrical savings as we move forward.
In 10 years of experience at the property with the central plant, we were very hesitant to remove chemicals and make this jump initially as everything we had been exposed to told us that chemical treatment stability is so important to your central plant. As described above, we pulled the plug on the chemicals and are experiencing very positive results with water savings, chemical savings, and the sustainability results of removing chemical use which is huge for our industry leading sustainability program.
We take readings and monitor the system every day and the water is clear as ever and all readings are within range and as expected. The Dynamic Water group has been hands on and continued to work with us after the installation to make sure of our success with their system. The positive results that have been achieved are remarkable so far and we are just getting started. The professionalism and our partnership with Dynamic Water have been fantastic. We would recommend this product and the Company to anyone who would like to improve their central plant and operations.
